The museum focuses on contemporary art, with an emphasis on art cars, other fine arts, and artists that are rarely acknowledged by other cultural institutions.
The museum was founded in February 1998 as a not-for-profit arts organization by two individuals who are long-time supporters of the Art Car movement.
The goal of the museum is to encourage public awareness of the cultural, political, economic, and personal dimensions of art.
The museum will be closing to the public on April 28, 2024. The final day to visit the museum and the exhibition is on that date.
Discussions are in progress with local and regional arts organizations to continue and evolve the museum's presence, legacy, and mission in the future. Details of these discussions and plans will be shared as they take shape.
